Here is another engaging episode in Robert’s ongoing commentary series “How I see it.” Robert reminds us of the “Reagan Revolution” and gives a compelling argument as to why Reagan’s policies are one of the key reasons (and basis) for the decline of our democracy. Some sample quotes from the show:

…. greed isn’t enough … crime doesn’t pay …

… conservatism sounds great in speeches but fails as a governing ethic…

And some highlights of Robert’s perspective on Reagan’s legacy:

… governance by stagecraft rather than wisdom …

… bumper sticker philosophy …

… championing the rich over the common man …

… demeaning society’s less fortunate …

… racial acrimony…

… environmental disconnect …

… ideological confrontation rather than compromise …

… military might as a foreign policy tool of choice …

… S&L pillaging of the treasury …

… unleashing the extreme right wing conservative thuggery to prey upon the nation …

Robert’s commentaries are now back on a regular basis on Democracy At the Cross Roads at ANationDeceived.org.
We welcome his return.

This is Robert’s 2nd commentary in his ongoing series “How I see it.” Robert opens this commentary by stating “America is in trouble, big trouble, and the majority of us don’t have a clue of what’s really happening right before our eyes . . .” Robert then explorers the history of conservatism and the Republican Party to support his statement “The greatest threat to our American way of life is the Republican Party.”

As part of our ongoing content evolution and plans for 2008, we are pleased to introduce a new commentary series with Robert Hatchell. With these regular twice-a-month commentaries, he will be adding his insightful observations on America’s changing socio-political landscape because we are, of course, a Democracy at the Crossroads.

Robert is from Portland, OR and is an independent thinker, scholar, and a “popularizer” of history. He is a keen observer of American culture, history and keeps his “finger on the pulse” of the socio-political climate.

In this opening commentary, Robert talks about the sad and unfortunate “war” that is raging within America between …

“… Democrats against Republicans… liberals against conservatives … blacks against whites … elites against just plain folks … fear-mongers against the fearful … evangelicals against the secular … the haves against the used to have it but lost it, against the never hads but desperately want it … environmentalists against growth at all costers, damn the consequences … global warmers against SUVers … neoliberals against America firsters … neoconservatives against everybody else, etc. etc. etc. …”

“… And just what is being contested? The fate of democracy as we know it… “

Enjoy this engaging and thought provoking show. In his subsequent commentaries, Robert will be elaborating on the various themes in this opening show.

The entire text for this show will also be available on our blog next week.
